Job Title:  Pulper Assistant

Supervisor: Pulper Operator

Regular hours worked: 4 days on & 4 days off

Position Overall Purpose and Objective

Individually: all pulper area activities are properly done to generate a good batch of pulp in quantity and quality, according to the recipes; to maintain the raw materials in good condition, ready to be used; to maintain the yard and the pulper area clean.

Crew: to keep the loading equipment (forklift and CAT) clean and in running condition together with the pulper operator; all requested activities along the production line, safely done, to keep a right and smooth production process.

Technical Skills Required

To be able to safely and efficiently drive a forklift. To have knowledge of how mechanical equipment used (pumps, valves, motors) are working. To have the ability to understand and prepare a recipe.

Main Activities Description

On pulper area:

Know the product grade being run. Feed with furnishes according to the recipe, as per the Pulper Operator’s request. Help on mucking and skimming activities – request the ability to use a fork and shovel to throw debris out of the pulper pit. Maintain the area around chests and pulper clean. Maintained cleaning and running condition of the loading equipment (forklift and CAT).

On yard area:

Keep the area clean of paper and wood debris, sawdust, etc, using a rake, broom, and water hose. Have the emptied pallets (from sawdust bags, and bales) neatly stored. Maintain the light raw material (bulk sawdust, newspaper pile) wet to avoid wind blowing them out. Witness raw material downloading activities and report any unusual aspect of improper quality or type to the Pulper Operator or Machine Tender.

On storage areas:

Keep easy access to sawdust bags and bales. Cover sawdust bags with a plastic tarp to protect them from rain. Assist on roll felt covering with a plastic tarp to protect from rain. Remove bales wire/strips in preparing the bales to be used.

Estimated volume of time on different activities using equipment:

Forklift – 15%

Rake, broom, water hose (on cleaning) – 45%

Fork, shovel on skimming/mucking – 10%

Servicing on pumps – 20%

Other – 10%

Major Responsibilities / Duties

All activities are to be done safely. Have the areas clean, especially the access ways to the raw materials. Spray with water the light raw material especially during the windy time. Keep necessary packed raw material (sawdust bags, bales) handy and ready to be used by the Pulper Operator. Cut the Roofing and returned felt roll ready to be recycled. Report any raw material lost in quality observed. Report any incident/accident to Machine Tender.

If the weekend follows, procure materials and forms for the weekend.

Crew members are directly subordinate to the Pulper Operator.

Follow and respect the Company SOP and safety rules.

Follow the provided specifications.

Hazards / Warnings

All operations required safety gear on. Continuously: bump cap, safety glasses, back support belt, work shoes. Specific: gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety belt, harness.

Sharp blade usage may occur.

Often raw material trucks and light trucks are crossing the area.

Some work activities require body rotation and stretch.

The work environment may be wet or dusty.

Movement up/down the stairs and along the chest area stairs are required.

Due to the dynamic process the level of personal caution and alert must be high all the time.

Do not perform tasks not required in your position.

Do not interfere with running equipment (such as conveyors, chain transmissions, gear transmissions, and all others).

Only qualified maintenance personnel will perform troubleshooting activities (electrical and mechanical). Do not open any electrical panel.

Do not climb, jump, or run over the equipment, handrails, stairs, etc.

Do not lift over-limit weights. Lifting weights, follow the appropriate procedures.

Machine Guards must be ON all the time. Running with open guards is TOTALLY FORBIDDEN.

The Forklift speed and maneuvers must be according to the safety rules of the plant. No high-speed or blind maneuvers are allowed. Notify the supervisor if a forklift becomes unsafe (missing horn, light, steering or hydraulic problems and others). When filling the propane tank, follow the specific procedure. Wear the safety belts at all times!

Do not perform any activity that might be unsafe for you and/or your colleagues.

Job Title:  Tanker Truck Driver

Department: Shipping Department

Reports to: VP of Operation Traffic Manager

Position Summary: Responsible for the safe and timely delivery of company products. Must be able to comply with all D.O.T., State, Federal, and City laws and regulations while operating vehicles. Will be required to assist with various other duties within the shipping department as necessary.

General Purpose:   To achieve maximum delivery of products to customers with the highest level of professionalism while adhering to all company policies and safety regulations.

Position Requirements:

  • This position requires a Clean Driving Record
  • Class A CDL License
  • Tanker and HazMat Endorsements
  • Flexible schedule, day or evening shift
  • 2-3 years experience driving a tanker with liquid Asphalt
  • Performs all segments of the company’s delivery functions.
  • Drives truck to destination. Prepares receipts for load picked up.
  • Maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with the supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Loads and unloads truck.
  • Pre-trip Inspection of truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Must perform minor repairs and maintenance of company vehicles and equipment to maintain good working order.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts and securing of loads utilizing the “tie-down” method.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Title:  Stacker

Job Responsibilities (physical):

  • The ability to lift and place rolls of saturated felt or coated felt on pallets weighing from 30#s to 50#s. Requires heavy lifting.
  • The ability to place a pallet into the conveyor system utilizing a forklift.
  • Tying of rolls of pallet with twine. Free movement of the upper body.
  • Maintain the stacker area in a good state of cleanliness.
  • The ability to move up and down stairs in a brisk manner as paper in the finished product looper breaks.
  • The ability to sort through pallets and select pallets, which meet or exceed desired specifications. to be provided.
  • The ability to reposition labels on finished rolls.
  • The ability to respond quickly when a paper break occurs throughout the product line, including the saturator.
  • All saturator breaks require all employees working in the saturator area to have all safety gear on. Bump hat, eye protection, gloves, and back support belt on the person, and be fully alert of your surroundings.

Communication:

  • Ability to read and understand all safety and chemical procedures used on a daily basis.
  • Relay to the winder operator upon stacking uneven rolls (aka hi/lo’s).
  • Relay to the winder operator upon stacking sticky rolls (asphalt)
  • Relay to the winder operator when too much paste and glue are being used on the label.
  • Relay to the winder operator any quality defects noted such as: under saturated felt (aka, white spots), ripped or torn sheet, sheet too hot, not enough sand on coated paper, too much water being used, punctures on the sheet from build-up on rolls, lines off track, no lines visible.
  • Relay to the winder operator any problems that occur on the pallet line, so as to adjust accordingly.

Job Title:  Class A CDL Truck Driver

General Purpose:   To achieve maximum delivery of products to customers with the highest level of professionalism while adhering to all company policies and safety regulations.

Compensation: $0.51 CPM (Mileage Split) plus Drop Pay
